Visual Effects Technician Internship

The Position

Ideum seeks a full-time Visual Effects Technician Intern to contribute to the development of immersive experiences for museums, including a new installation at Valles Caldera National Preserve and the National Children's Museum. This is a 60 to 90-day, paid internship, starting as soon as possible. We are looking for a detail-oriented, entry-level technician. We are particularly interested in someone with skills in audio production and editing. Bonus points if the candidate also has experience in one or more areas of visual effects, including 2D/3D animation, character development and rigging, storyboarding, scriptwriting, linear media editing, video capture, or photography shoots.

The intern will be part of Ideum’s Creative Services team, collaborating with designers, producers, and media systems specialists to craft engaging digital experiences. This in-person position is based at Ideum’s studio in Corrales, New Mexico (near Albuquerque and an hour from Santa Fe). This is not a remote position.

We don’t expect candidates to have all the necessary skills upfront—this internship provides opportunities for learning and professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Assist with audio production and editing for immersive museum installations.

• Support visual effects projects in areas such as 2D/3D animation, character rigging, or video editing.

• Contribute to storyboarding, script development, and media production.

• Work with designers, software developers, and media specialists to bring concepts to life.

Requirements

• 1-2 years of experience in audio production, editing, or visual effects (academic or professional).

• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or other media production tools.

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, creative environment.

• Highly motivated, self-directed, and eager to learn.

Extra Credit

• Experience with game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine).

• Knowledge of interactive media or museum exhibition design.

• Passion for history, science, or cultural storytelling.

• Experience with location-based video capture or photography.

Paid Internship
